C90 & C5 Bundles
The Basic C90 & C5 Bundles ($499.99 & $949.99 respectively) included with the telescopes are designed to facilitate utilizing the telescopes as “spotting Scopes” which involves long distance viewing over land and water. The accessories included maximize this function by reducing typical issues associated with long distance viewing such as glare, atmospheric turbulence, stability and aiming precision, and lenspen maintenance. The variable polarizer eliminates the effect of glare which washes out the image, subduing details. Compared to the higher power 32mm or 25mm eyepieces that come with the C90 & C5 respectively, the 40mm eyepiece provides a brighter, sharper, more expansive view and lessens the impact of sharpness-reducing atmospheric turbulence caused by heat waves produced by differences in surface and air temperatures. The robust Alt/Az tripod and mount included in the bundles provide convenient panning and much more precise alignment capability than found in camera tripods. The convenient lenspen provides an effective and uncomplicated means for lens maintenance, facilitating removal of dust and oily residue such as fingerprints and eyelash oils. Proper lens maintenance is critical for retaining brightness and sharpness of high quality optical devices.
The C90 and C5 telescopes also excel as astronomical telescopes when equipped with appropriate accessories included in the two Astronomy Upgrade Bundles described below. Bundle A includes the Basic Bundle described above plus the following items. These include an option to the prism diagonal on the back of each telescope. The 45° prism diagonal that comes with the telescopes provides a convenient viewing position for the observer focusing on long distance, horizontal viewing directions. Light reflected from two prism faces also corrects the upside down and backwards image produced when the eyepiece is inserted directly in the back of the telescope with no intervening diagonal. The 90° star diagonal in the Astronomy Upgrade Bundles has a single mirror to turn upside down to right side up but left to right remains reversed. Sky viewers typically do not mind this reversal because they appreciate the extra brightness produced by the star diagonal.
The extra, higher powered 15mm eyepiece, and barlow lens provided in the Astronomy Upgrade Bundle A allows for higher magnifications used for celestial viewing since atmospheric turbulence when looking up is typically less of an issue than with horizontal viewing. The Astronomy Upgrade Bundle A also includes a Deluxe Stargazing Filter Kit which includes a variable polarizing filter to reduce glare, a skyglow filter to reduce the effects of light pollution, and a set of 4 color filters to enhance lunar and planetary views by emphasizing subtle details which are not very evident in white light.
Astronomy Upgrade Bundle B includes the Basic Bundle plus Bundle A plus the following items. These include a more versatile tripod/mount and a support bracket. They make the telescope better adapted to viewing high in the sky than does the standard tripod and retains the convenient horizontal viewing capability.
