Mars has an intriguing red color caused by rust on its surface. This recreation presents a direct look at each crater, along with multiple layers of red, brown, and tan colors that make up its surface. Graphics are satellite images taken by NASA, giving it a level of realism you won’t find with other interpretations. Mars is due to make its biennial arrival at Opposition in October, 2020 when it and the Sun are on opposite sides of Earth. Both Earth and Mars will be fairly close to their perihelions when they are closest to the Sun. As a result, Mars will be closer to Earth than it has since 2003 and will appear at its brightest and largest since that time.
